ARTIST IN RESIDENCE
The Richard Ruiz Distinguished Scholar/Artist in Residence Program
Resplandor International in collaboration with Worlds of Words, the University of Arizona College of Education and corporate sponsor Learning A-Z invite an accomplished scholar or artist from the world of children’s literature, visual arts, literacy or international education to apply for a 4-week 2020 summer residency in Guanajuato, México.
The selected scholar or artist will provide an international presence for the collaborating institutions in the greater community of Guanajuato. The goal of the residency is to expand intercultural understandings and global perspectives through the use of high quality, culturally authentic global literature. The proposal might also focus on promoting reading engagement, language development, critical literacy or written expression through global literature. Proposed activities involve providing classes, presentations, performances, lectures, seminars, and/or exhibitions in the community. An artist in residence, for example, could promote artistic expression by teaching the craft of book illustration and design.
A successful proposal will discuss how you propose to interface with Resplandor International and local or regional partners/collaborators such as the Secretary of Public Education, the University of Guanajuato, the Benemérita Centenaria Escuela Normal Oficial de Guanajuato, Casa de la Cultura, public schools, non-governmental organizations and the UA Verano en México summer study program in the greater community of Guanajuato to promote the love of reading, literacy and international education. The scholar in residence will work in collaboration with Dr. Todd Fletcher, the director of the Verano en México summer study abroad program and Resplandor International in Guanajuato, and will provide a final report of activities.

The Scholar/Artist in Residence program provides travel expenses, housing, and an honorarium for the 4-week residency beginning around mid-June to mid-July, 2020. The application and proposal should include:
- a current CV along with a 1-2 page narrative describing your background and expertise related to this residency
- 2-3 page proposal with possible goals and activities for:
o Daily workshops for children of different ages at a rural summer camp (July 6-16) at Resplandor o Course sessions (2-3) for educators and preservice teachers at local universities and teacher preparation colleges o Public sessions (2-3) for community members and/or parents o Seminars (3-4) for UA undergraduate/graduate students in a summer study abroad course in Guanajuato.
